Temi's Potty

We have conquered sleeping through the night, crawling, walking, talking, eating and running all over Mommy and Daddy. So I guess that means it's about time to start potty training.

I read that the first step is to get her familiar with the idea of using the bathroom, so around her birthday we started introducing her to her potty chair and letting her see me and Todd use the bathroom. She's in love with her chair - she will even drag it out of the bathroom to sit on it. She pulls at her pants and diaper and she even tries to wipe herself when she's on the toilet.

I think it's safe to say that we are successfully enrolled in Potty Training 102. Now it gets hard. We haven't been very consistent and I know we're going to have to change that moving forward. We've put her on the potty when we caught her in mid-tell sign and let's just say those were some poopy and wet situations we found ourselves in. Now we're trying to put her on the chair every hour when we're home and when she wakes up and before she goes to bed. I even found her a potty song (check it out below - ADORABLE!!!). But in true Temi fashion it just makes her want to jump off the potty and shake her booty. LOL SMH

For those that have traveled down Potty Road, what stories or tips do you have? I'd love to get pointers on things I can try besides letting her running around diaper-free peeing and pooping on everything. (Is that really the only sure-fire way to potty train?)

All in a Weekend's Work

Temi spent the weekend with TeeTee Keisha where she played in the snow, dressed up as a princess and had a blast with Nema and CJ. When we got back on Sunday, she also had a new phrase, "She's pregnant."

Yup, she had a busy weekend.

Splash! Splash!

In a recent convo, I shared with Todd how I missed my bubble baths and I wish I could take them again, but didn't know where I had time to fit one in. He suggested that I take one during my down time while I read or listen to music.

I decided to listen and I took one yesterday because it had been a long day and I wasn't feeling well.

Needless to say that not even 15 minutes in, Todd came in to use the bathroom and then five seconds after he left, all I heard was banging on the door followed by "No baby, you can't go in there" "I want Mama" followed by high pitch crying.

Not wanting the rest of my relaxation time to be riddled with merciless screams, I yelled for Todd to let her in. With the hugest tear-stricken grin, Temi came running in full force, hugged me and attempted to climb in the tub, fully-clothed. Todd undressed her and threw some toys in and the three of us splashed away and poured water on Temi.

It wasn't the quiet "Me" time I had set out to have, but the resulting bubble bath for 2.5 was still relaxing and fun and let me spend some quality time playing with my princess. And she had a blast :-)

To Loc or Not to Loc? That is The Question

I've been asked several times lately if I would loc Temi's hair. My response is always the same, if she wants it and she's mature enough to make that decision then yes. But I silently wonder what will I do if she's not old enough to make that decision.

A week ago I got my answer. T3 had lunch with my mentor from hs and college, his wife and their daughter and his daughter had ponytails with comb twists so it gave the illusion of locs without being loc'd. I decided that if Temi asks for locs before I think she's ready, then I will do that. I will give her "starter locs" taking care to wash and comb them out before they loc up.

Afterall, I'm pretty sure with me, Keisha and  Erica loc'd and my mom and best friend constantly in braids/twists, Temi's gonna ask for it one day. Now I can be prepared. And if she doesn't, no harm, no foul.
