Tempess had just finished peeing in the potty when she tried to empty the tray into the toilet. Not wanting her to spill pee everywhere, I simply said, "That's okay. Mommy will do it." To which she looked me square in the eye, stomped her foot and loudly proclaimed, "Mommy I got this!"

We have reached that stage where Tempess is overly ecstatic to use the potty. Where she says she has to potty even though she doesn't. Nana bought her some Elmo panties that she loves and refuses to take off. In retrospect, it's prolly the panties that landed us here. Anyhow, here is where Temi yells Mommy pooottteeeeeee then runs full speed towards the bathroom. Here is where she pulls her pants down, sits on the potty then empties the potty into the toilet all on her own.
She still won't poop in the potty. And she will occasionally have an accident, but I can't help feeling some kinda victorious.
Recently, we were at Erica's when lunchtime rolled around. Determined to keep playing, Temi engaged me in the following conversation:
Me: Tempess sit down.
Temi: Mama, noooooo.
Me: Tempess, it's time to eat. Sit down.
Temi: Ow, poop, Mama, poop.
Me: You pooped?
Temi: Poop. Poop.
Me: Come here. Let me see.
*Temi grins, turns around, backs up and shows me an empty diaper.*
Who taught her that?
On Wednesday, when I picked Temi up from school, her teachers told me she peed on the potty a little. I, of course, got super excited and proud.
Apparently, it went down like this:
She pooped.
They changed her.
She ASKED to go to the potty.
They told her she was just changed.
She INSISTED.
They put her on the potty.
She peed.
Mommy's big girl!!!
Fact: Temi likes to clean and help out.
Fact: Temi knows that sometimes there's poop in her diaper.
Fact: Temi knows she should poop in the toilet.
All of these facts led to Temi dunking her (rolled up and closed) dirty diaper in the toilet like an Oreo in milk......
Oh yes this potty training thing is fun.....
Sunday, we had a full day of potty training and while Temi has yet to make the potty sing, she did manage to stand in the middle of the living room with her training pants at her ankles yelling "Oh, oh!"
I kept telling her to pull her pants up (albeit amazed that she successfully pulled them down), but she refused. Todd walked over to pull them up and noticed that she had pooped. All the while, she kept saying "Oh, oh!"
So Mommies and Daddies, is this progress or coincidence? And where do we go from here?
We have conquered sleeping through the night, crawling, walking, talking, eating and running all over Mommy and Daddy. So I guess that means it's about time to start potty training.
I read that the first step is to get her familiar with the idea of using the bathroom, so around her birthday we started introducing her to her potty chair and letting her see me and Todd use the bathroom. She's in love with her chair - she will even drag it out of the bathroom to sit on it. She pulls at her pants and diaper and she even tries to wipe herself when she's on the toilet.
I think it's safe to say that we are successfully enrolled in Potty Training 102. Now it gets hard. We haven't been very consistent and I know we're going to have to change that moving forward. We've put her on the potty when we caught her in mid-tell sign and let's just say those were some poopy and wet situations we found ourselves in. Now we're trying to put her on the chair every hour when we're home and when she wakes up and before she goes to bed. I even found her a potty song (check it out below - ADORABLE!!!). But in true Temi fashion it just makes her want to jump off the potty and shake her booty. LOL SMH
For those that have traveled down Potty Road, what stories or tips do you have? I'd love to get pointers on things I can try besides letting her running around diaper-free peeing and pooping on everything. (Is that really the only sure-fire way to potty train?)
